Barnsley College

The Additional Learning Support (ALS) team at Barnsley College helps students maximise their potential, enjoy their time studying, and progress to the next stage in their career. The team offers support across all College sites: in-class, outside of the classroom, with exams and assessments and in the wider College environment. This support enables students to access all the opportunities on offer and ensure they can fully enjoy their time at Barnsley College. Whatever learning difficulty or disability students may have, we will make sure the support is exactly what they need.

We support students with a range of learning needs, including ADHD; Autism Spectrum Conditions; Dyslexia, Dyscalculia, Dysgraphia and Dyspraxia; Hearing Impairment; Mental Health conditions; Physical Disabilities; and Visual Impairment.

We work with teaching staff, other College services and external organisations (such as TIAG, CAMHS, the Sensory Impairment Team and Education Psychology Service) to provide a person-centred approach. The support we offer is reviewed throughout the year and our aim, where possible, is to guide students towards independence. We are a part of the Local Offer.

The Chesterfield College Group

The Chesterfield College Group offers a wide range of assistance to students with additional needs. Our priority is that all students have an equal chance of success and offer specialist learning support, equipment and resources in order to make this happen.

Communication Specialist College

The College provides individualised learning programmes for a broad range of additional needs and is a national specialist in Deafness, Hearing Impairment and Communication Difficulties including Autism.

The College has a large on-site Multi-Disciplinary Team including Audiology, Speech and Language Therapy, Occupational Therapy, Counselling, Nursing & medical support, Rebound Therapy and British Sign Language. There are also specialist staff such as Teachers of the Deaf and a variety of qualified vocational specialists. Some of the staff are qualified in BSL up to Level 3 and Level 6.

Transition is key to our students achieving their long-term goals and EHCP outcomes. The Transition Team ensure that planning is built into individual timetables to make informed decisions about long term goals focused on communication, independence and employment. Regular meetings are held with external agencies across the region and country and with those professionals who can support the individual in the transition process including one-to-one sessions with advocates and person-centred planners.

The Personal and Social Development curriculum provides several key elements to promote independence including: Pastoral Support in groups and on an individual basis, Accessing the Community, Travel training, Independent Living Skills, Managing Social Relationships, Communication Skills, Financial Literacy and smiLE Therapy which is a specialist communication therapy designed to equip students to operate at the highest level of independence that their condition allows.

DN Colleges Group

DN Colleges Group offers a wide range of assistance to students with additional needs. Our priority is that all students have an equal chance of success and offer specialist learning support, equipment and resources in order to make this happen.

Northern College

We provide additional support to students who may require this as a result of a learning difficulty, disability or health condition. We aim to provide individually tailored support to help students overcome barriers, build resilience and meet targets in order to become more independent.

RNN Group

Everyone deserves a fair start in life and we are committed to giving every learner the opportunity to reach their full potential. Education plays a critical role in achieving this.

All families need extra help from time to time. For children and young people who have a Special Educational Need or Disability (SEND), different levels of support are required at different times. Children and young people with the most complex needs and their parents and carers may need access to ongoing support and advice.

The Sheffield College

The Sheffield College offers a wide range of assistance to students with additional needs. We believe that all students should have an equal chance of success and offer specialist learning support, equipment and resources.

The Sheffield College supports students who have an EHCP plan and those with the following additional needs:

• physical or mobility impairments

• visual or hearing impairments

• communication and learning difficulties

• dyslexia, dyspraxia, dyscalculia

• Autism and Asperger syndrome

• medical conditions such as epilepsy, diabetes and heart disease

• mental health difficulties such as depression

We have an extensive team of qualified and experienced specialists to support students with:

• physical access

• personal care

• adapting course materials

• specialist equipment and resources

• specialist provisions
